For Community Health Workers (CHWs)

(1) Why should I participate in this program?

Both you and your clients can benefit from this program. Through this training program, together we can increase awareness and practice in cancer services that are based on family health history. In addition, after completing the training, you will be able to collect cancer family history (CFH) and promote healthy lifestyles in the community. You will also receive 6 free Texas certified continuing education units (CEUs)!

(2) What is family health history?

“Family health history is information about diseases that run in your family, as well as the eating habits, activities, and environments that your family shares. Knowing about the diseases that run in your family can help you make healthy choices.” –Genetic Alliance

To learn more about cancer-related family health history, register for the CFH training online.

​​​(3) Where and how can I register for the training?

Click on the CHW tab at the top of the page and click on the register link. It will direct you to a page where you can fill out your information to register for the online training. 

(4) Is there a deadline to register for the training?

No, there is no deadline. You can register for the training at any time.

(5) How much does the training cost?

The training is free. You will also receive 6 free continuing education units (CEUs) that are valid for Texas!

(6) When can I expect to receive the 6 CEUs?

Texas CHWs/CHWIs will have about 3 months to finish this course. Upon completion, we will submit the training completion report to Gateway to Care within two weeks.

(7) Can I get a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes, you will be able to download a certificate of completion after the training.

(8) How long is the online training?

The training will take approximately 6 hours.

(9) What language(s) are the training materials?

We have the training materials in English and Spanish.

(10) Can I download the learning materials?

You must register for the training to download the learning materials. To register, click on the CHW tab at the top of the page and click on the register link. It will direct you to a page where you can fill out your information to register for the online training. 

(11) Can I get any technological support during the online training?

Yes, our preferred method of contact is through email (trainignchw@gmail.com). You may also call us at 979-426-3230. However, email is the faster way to reach us.

(12) My friend/colleague is not a CHW, can he/she join the online training?

No, he/she may not. The online training is for CHWs only.

 

For Community Health Workers (CHW) Training Centers

(1) Why should we participate in this program?

Communities place trust in CHWs, allowing CHWs to serve as the bridge between the health care providers and communities. Training CHWs in cancer family history (CFH) and cancer genetic testing will help reach underserved populations and engage them in personalized cancer prevention activities.

(2) How can our center train CHWs?

We offer materials and toolkit that include the CFH training curriculum, step-by-step implementation guide on how to effectively train CHWs, and information regarding potential barriers and corresponding solutions. To receive theses resources, register online for our CFH training.

(3) Where and how can our center register for the training?

To register for our CFH training, click on the CHW Training Center tab at the top of the page and click on the register link. You will be directed to a page where you can fill out your information to register for the training.

In order to access our training materials, all CHW training centers and programs employing CHWs will need to register using their organizations’ names, physical addresses, phone numbers, and emails, as well as the contact information of their leaders.

(4) What language(s) are your materials?

We have the training materials in English and Spanish.

(5) Can we adapt your curriculum to train our CHWs?

Yes, that is the purpose of our project and training program!

(6) Is the training free?

Yes, the training is free. CHWs will also receive 6 free state-certified continuing education units (CEUs).

No, unfortunately our grant only covers training centers in Texas.
